1993 has turned out to be a relatively good vintage for Chianti, which is much needed after the largely disappointing 1992s, and what is shaping up to be another troublesome year, 1994. Castellare's spicy, leathery, medium-bodied 1993 Chianti Classico Riserva exhibits decent fruit, an earthy character, and a spicy finish. Although not concentrated or complex, it should offer serviceable drinking for another 1-2 years.
