The front label of this wine records the winery's founding date as 1090. I paused when I saw it. That is indeed impressive. Dievole has existed for half of our entire civilization since the birth of Christ. The 2017 Chianti Classico is an elegantly tempered wine with cleanly delineated aromas of wild cherry, rose and potting soil. There are very distant notes of spice, but they are expertly woven into the greater mid-weight fiber of the wine. There is a touch of vintage ripeness in the form of black olive. The wine would pair nicely with a risotto of leeks and mushrooms with truffle oil. The blend is 90% Sangiovese, 7% Canaiolo and 3% Colorino. With 200,000 bottles produced, this is one of Italy's ultimate value wines.
