The Beck 2008 Chenin Blanc Gamekeeper’s Reserve is one of those rare South African wines of this variety to somewhat put me in mind of its Loire cousins. Its aromas of apple blossom, honey, ripe melons lead to a lush, smoothly-satisfying palate whose hints of smoke, caramel, and salt add interest on an admirably refreshing finish. Enjoy this over the coming year. A barrel-aged variation on Chenin from Beck tended toward very musky ripeness. Numerous U.S. importers.
