Generally speaking, the 2011 Riservas from Montalcino show good, but not always consistent results across the board. One of the new discoveries in this tasting is the 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva from Podere la Vigna. I liked the velvety nature of the wine and its satisfying richness. The bouquet peels back with dark fruit nuances followed by spice, tobacco and cured meat. The wine is savory and rich with a touch of cherry sweetness on the robust finish.

An earthy style, with leather, cherry and licorice elements. Approachable now, yet still has tannins to resolve. Shows good balance overall, but remains slightly dry on the finish. Drink now through 2028. 150 cases made, 100 cases imported.??–BS??Region: Italy / Brunello di Montalcino Select to Add
