The 1995s are made in a restrained, but classic style. The 1995 Zinfandel Estate Mayacamas reveals a dark ruby/purple color, and a tight but more obviously ripe nose of black-cherry fruit intermixed with minerals and spice. Crisp acidity, moderate tannin, and an elegant, medium-bodied personality result in an attractive, although intensely subtle style of Zinfandel. This wine needs 1-2 years of cellaring; it should age well for 8-10 years. Readers who have followed the evolution of the Storybook Mountain Zinfandels must realize that these wines, which emanate from steep hillside vineyards north of Calistoga, are among the longest-lived Zinfandels produced. In fact, some vintages of the Estate Reserves give every indication of evolving and improving for 10-15 years, a distinct rarity among Zinfandels.Tel. (707) 942-5310
