This small 2,000 case winery has a 404-year winemaking history. This offering is bottled unfiltered, and represents a classic, pure expressions of Tuscany.
In the finest vintages, a cuvee called Quattrocentenario is produced. The 1997 (celebrating the winery's first 400 years) was made from 100% Sangiovese aged in French barriques. Approximately 200 cases were produced. It exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as abundant aromas of sweet black cherry fruit intermixed with minerals, smoke, iron, and meat. Chewy and full-bodied, with new saddle leather and black cherry-flavored fruit, it is powerful yet elegant, rich yet balanced. Sweet tannin and well-integrated acidity give it immediate accessibility, but the wine is capable of lasting for 10-15 years.
