Vidal-Fleury's 1988 Chateauneuf du Pape is as good as their tasty 1985, with plenty of ripe black-cherry and raspberry fruit, a nice, spicy, peppery nose, and a full-bodied, alcoholic finish. It lacks some complexity, but it is an attractive, robust, chunky wine. Anticipated maturity: now-2000. Last tasted 9/94.
