Its stable-mate, the 2007 El Nido, is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Monastrell from the same vineyard sites and it received the same elevage. It, too, has a splendid, nearly ethereal perfume, a full-bodied, voluptuous personality, and unrestrained power. It is a bit more structured than the Clio bottling and will offer a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2025, perhaps longer although these wines have no track record of longevity. As an aside, it is not three times better than Clio as the price might suggest, not even close. The winemaking at Bodegas El Nido is overseen by the renowned Chris Ringland. This Cabernet-Monastrell blend tips the scales at 15.5% and asks you straight out: how big do you like your red wines? It is smoky, sultry and massive, with spicy boysenberry aromas, a deep, syrupy palate and plodding flavors of molasses, roasted berry, cedar plank and herbs.
