A blend of 60% Shiraz, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, Black Pearl’s 2006 Oro retails for a dollar less, and tastes even better than last year’s rendition. Remarkably deep in color, it smells of blackberry preserves, creme de cassis, mint chocolate, and vanilla; coats the palate with glycerin-rich, sweet but not at all cloying – indeed, downright lively – fruit; and finishes with hints of black pepper, brown spices, and tart berry skin that offer an ideal counterpoint to the wine’s sheer richness. When one considers that these vines are barely a decade old, the quality in this bottle certainly testifies to the dedication of the American ex-pat Nash family and to its site, which shares the soil and climate with an area famed for its vast and largely unique plant life.Imported by Southern Starz, Huntington Beach, CA; tel.
