This is a rustic, but flavorful offering from one of the warmest appellations in the Cotes du Rhone-Villages, Rasteau. The 2004 Rasteau a la Gloire de Mon Pere is a beefier, richer version of the regular bottling, displaying plenty of black cherry fruit, dried herb, roasted meat, licorice, and pepper-like notes. This big, ruggedly constructed wine should drink nicely for 5-6 years, but purchasers should not expect all the tannin to ever melt away.
