Damilano’s 2007 Barbera d’Alba is a soft, caressing wine with notable delineation in its aromas and flavors. It offers excellent balance and polish at this level. Damilano’s Barbera is made from fruit grown in Diano d’Alba and Monforte. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2010.
The biggest news at Damilano is the family’s recent acquisition of eight hectares of vineyards in the prestigious Cannubi vineyard through a long-term lease. In the past I have not been too terribly impressed with overall quality here, but hopefully the Cannubi transaction will be an inflection point for the estate. Access to a historic site isn’t just a business opportunity, it is also an enormous privilege and responsibility. Today I have my doubts as to whether Damilano will be able to make the most of their holdings in Cannubi but nothing would make me happier than to be proven wrong.
