The 1998 Merlot Alder Springs was harvested on November 2nd (an indication of just how cold the summer of 1998 proved to be). Dark ruby/purple-colored, with sweet mulberry, blackberry, and cherry fruit, this medium-bodied, dense, attractive Merlot has plenty up-front, but not a great deal of glycerin or intensity once past its superficial appeal. It will be very good, perhaps excellent, but the vintage's lack of generosity and power are clearly evident. Drink it over the next 7-10 years. Sold via a mailing list.
