Vicchiomaggio produced a nearly outstanding 1991 Chianti Classico Riserva La Prima. From one of Tuscany's oldest vineyards, it is an atypically powerful, rich 1991, with evidence of new oak cask aging given its smoky, vanillin, toasty nose. Intense, ripe, and full-bodied, with layers of chewy black-cherry fruit, this wine is obviously made from low yields and old vines given its inner-core of high extraction. Although impressive, it requires another 1-2 years of cellaring. It should keep for at least a decade.
