Salicutti manages to get a good deal of press in Italy, but the wines, though certainly representative examples of the zone, have never blown me away. It’s pretty much the same story with the 1999 Brunello di Montalcino, a medium garnet which could use some additional freshness, a nose of cherries, tobacco, and smoke whose fruit is slightly acerbic, and a forceful palate which would benefit from more roundness and softer tannins.
