The superb 2003 Blanco, a blend of old vine Viura and Malvasia, is a distinctive, singular-styled white displaying a wonderful texture along with a sweet perfume of honeysuckle, peaches, and buttered citrus. Surprisingly nuanced with more concentration than most dry Spanish whites, and a long, heady finish, it was aged sur-lie with batonnage twice a week. The 2003 Allende Blanco is perky, fresh and vivacious on the nose with petrol-tinged honeyed fruit lending the wine a Germanic personality. The palate is medium-bodied with well-integrated oak lending a lovely creamy feel that perhaps dominates a little too much on the finish, although it is very harmonious and caressing. Drink now-2018. Commencing with the Allende Blanc, I was impressed by how well this ages. Predominantly Viura with a higher percentage of Malvasia in older vintages, it develops a fine waxy texture and almost dried Barsac-like personality.
