The 2007 RESERVA “GRANDE ROCIM,” all Alicante Bouschet, is meant to be the winery’s new top level entrant into the marketplace. Tight and crisp, it has an elegant mid-palate, but seems seductive on opening, laced with sweet vanilla and promising good fruit to come. The fruit, in fact, is sometimes hard to find under the oak, which was a bit disturbing, but I was more disturbed by occasional hits of alcohol (15.5%). Aeration seemed to help on both fronts. This has many merits, and a graceful feel at times, but it does have some things to prove in the cellar. It is not available yet in the USA marketplace, so no price has been set.
