The 2007 RESERVA “GRANDE ROCIM,” all Alicante Bouschet, is meant to be the winery’s new top level entrant into the marketplace. Tight and crisp, it has an elegant mid-palate, but seems seductive on opening, laced with sweet vanilla and promising good fruit to come. The fruit, in fact, is sometimes hard to find under the oak, which was a bit disturbing, but I was more disturbed by occasional hits of alcohol (15.5%). Aeration seemed to help on both fronts. This has many merits, and a graceful feel at times, but it does have some things to prove in the cellar. It is not available yet in the USA marketplace, so no price has been set. In Portugal, it is around 18 Euros retail. Drink 2011-2018.
