This is a new estate that makes only two wines that are both classified as Bolgheri Superiore. The 2013 Bolgheri Superiore Podere Ritorti is a dark and masculine wine with dark aromas of dark fruit and prune followed by spice, tar and black licorice. This is a somber and brooding wine that emits a steady and sharply focused approach. There is less fruit here, but you get more savory tobacco and spice instead. The blend is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller parts Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah (all aged in barrique for 18 months). Some 10,000 bottles are made.
