The 1994 Riesling Herrenweg Turckheim possesses nearly 13% alcohol. While it tastes very dry, it finishes with nearly 2% residual sugar. It is a gorgeously rich, spicy, intensely fragrant, full-bodied Riesling with some obvious honeyed noble rot (botrytis). With layers of flavor, an enticing, chewy texture, but no sense of heaviness, this is a large-scaled, fabulously rich Riesling that should drink well for 7-8 years. It was made from yields of under 2 tons per acre (28 hectoliters per hectare). Most of the Zind-Humbrecht 1994 Rieslings have two strikes against them ... microscopic quantities and lofty price tags. Yet lovers of this varietal are not likely to see a more compelling cross section of Riesling than the offerings reviewed here. The importer for the Zind-Humbrecht wines for most of the United States is Wine Markets International, Woodbury, NY; tel.
