The 2007 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Cuvee Philippine (50% Grenache, 35% Syrah, and the rest Carignan and Mourvedre) has an even higher natural alcohol of 14.6%. Bottled unfiltered after 100% aging in concrete vats, it represents a naked expression of the region. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by a big, sweet bouquet of lavender, blackberries, black cherries, roasted Provencal herbs, and a smoky, meaty character. Pure, dense, and flamboyant, it saturates the palate, but has no hard edges. Enjoy this gorgeous expression of the southern Rhone Valley over the next 4-5 years.
This superb estate has fashioned outstanding 2007s, all remarkable wine bargains. They are typical of the fabulous 2007 vintage in the southern Rhone.
