My favorite of this trio is the 2003 Avatar, a blend of Grenache, Mourvedre, and Shiraz from 15- to 60-year-old vines. Its dense ruby/purple hue is accompanied by sumptuous aromas of blackberries, currants, licorice, and subtle smoke. This layered, opulent effort reveals good acidity, a delicate touch of wood, and a deep, flavorful, full-bodied finish with no hard edges. It should drink well for 7-8 years.
