A sensational Cornas that readers shouldn't miss is the 2013 Cornas Le Vallon de l'Aigle (which translates to "The Valley of the Eagle"); it comes from a single, south-facing parcel of old vines and is only made in top vintages. Its inky purple color is followed by a sensational perfume of graphite, crushed rocks/wet granite, game-like meats and ample dark fruits. This gives way to a medium to full-bodied red that has an incredible, mouth-filling texture, no hard edges, fine tannin and a great finish. I hate to admit that this is the first time I've tasted this wine, but it's one serious Cornas that's up with the crème de la crème of the vintage!
