From the home of his winery and of the game reserve he funds in part through sales of the wine, namely the Robertson district on South Africa’s Western Cape, Graham Beck’s 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Gamekeeper’s Reserve displays scents of considerable complexity, among them olive, cedar, cassis, mulberry, tobacco, and tomato foliage. Only modest in body, but polished in texture, it manages to harmoniously combine its vegetal, black fruit, and nutty elements in a way that some earlier Beck offerings from the Bordeaux grapes that I have tasted did not. Suggestions of medicinal herbal concentrates and a hint of salted nuts tinge the black fruits in the finish. I would plan to enjoy this over the next 18-24 months. Numerous U.S. importers.
