The 2003 Petite Fleur is composed of 50% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 10% Syrah. It was aged for 10 months in new French oak. Opaque purple-colored, it offers up aromas of smoke, spice box, scorched earth, violets, black currants, and black cherry. This leads to a medium to full-bodied wine with gobs of ripe fruit, excellent concentration and depth, ripe tannins, and fine balance. It has enough stuffing to evolve for 3-4 years and drink well through 2020. It could easily pass for a classified growth Bordeaux. Bodega Monteviejo, owned by Catherine Pere-Verge (also the proprietor of Pomerol’s Le Gay), is located at the foothills of the Andes, next to Vista Flores, south of Mendoza. The globe-trotting Michel Rolland is in charge of winemaking.Importer: Bob Bofman Selections, Austin, TX; tel. (512) 919-9463
