The Domaine Amiot-Bonfils remains one of the most underrated producers of red and white burgundies. The range of 1989s I tasted with Amiot was the finest I have ever experienced from Amiot.
For connoisseurs who are able to defer their gratification, check out the 1989 Chassagne-Montrachet-Les Caillerets. It is a spectacularly rich, structured wine that needs at least 1-2 years of bottle age. Among the premiers crus, it is the most tightly knit of the Amiot-Bonfils wines, may well be the most concentrated, and may ultimately warrant an even higher score. It is a beautifully made white burgundy built for extended cellaring of 10-12 years.
