The 2007 CABERNET SAUVIGNON “SECRET RESERVE” MEVUSHAL was aged for 18 months in French oak. It comes from vines grown 750 meters above sea level and hits 14.8% alcohol. There is a little underlying brightness, well needed to cut through an oaky overlay, the coffee bean and licorice nuances. Without a lot of mid-palate concentration but with decent structure, it displayed some lush, velvety notes on the texture and came together pretty well. With significant aeration, it showed some green notes, but not as much as the non-Mevushal version. For a Mevushal wine, not a category that is usually synonymous with high quality, this shows very nicely and drinks nicely, without a lot of complexity but with some charm and real structure, some intensity on the finish, but not quite as much astringency as the non-Mevushal version. There were 9,343 bottles produced. Drink now-2017. Importer: Royal Wine Corp., Bayonne, N.J.; tel: (718) 534-0118.
