The dense purple-colored, fleshy, well-textured 2001 Shiraz McRae Wood exhibits aromas and flavors of earth, chocolate, pepper, plums, and blackberries, but it does not possess the depth and concentration of the stunning 2002. Last year I rated the 2001 Shiraz The Armagh 96 points, and after a year of bottle age, it easily merits that score. It is a huge, dense Shiraz boasting new saddle leather, white chocolate, espresso roast, blackberry, currant, underbrush, and pepper characteristics. Massive, full-bodied, and rich, it is a great wine. Importer: Negociants, USA, Napa, CA; tel. (707) 259-0993
