The 2008 Terra di Monteverro is a gorgeous wine layered with sweet dark plums, grilled herbs and spices, all of which flow effortlessly from a radiant, medium-bodied frame. I especially like the way the wine blossoms on the mid-palate and finish. This is an excellent choice for readers who want to get a look at what is happening at Monteverro without spending the money for the more important bottlings. Terra di Monteverro is Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. Monteverro is one of the most exciting young properties I have come across in a while. The vineyards are located in Capalbio, in the province of Grosseto. The estate was founded in 2003 by Georg Weber, a young Swiss man inspired by the great wines of Bordeaux. The 2008s are the first releases from Weber’s superstar team, which includes Michel Rolland and Jean Hoefliger of Alpha Omega in Napa Valley. With the exception of the Chardonnay these are all interesting wines. Prices are high for a debut vintage, but the investment required to make wines at this level is no doubt high as well.Importer: Opici Wines, Glen Rock, NJ; tel. (201) 689-1200
