Coming from 60- to 90-year-old Grenache vines and aged in a combination of concrete tank and 2- to 5-year-old barrels, the 2013 C?tes du Rh?ne Villages le Ponnant is a finesses-driven effort that has pretty violets, blackberry, black raspberry, spice and underbrush aromatics. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied, nicely concentrated and has high, yet ripe, tannin. It will round into form nicely once in bottle and have 5-6 years of prime drinking.
