The 1996 Chateauneuf du Pape (13.6% natural alcohol) is mostly Grenache, but there is 5-6% Mourvedre and Syrah in the final blend. This wine spent time in both new oak and one-year old barrels. It is a full-bodied offering with huge amounts of glycerin, noticeable pain grille scents, and terrific black cherry liqueur-like fruit intermixed with cedar, spicy nuts, roasted herbs, and pepper. Amazing texture and chewiness give this wine a surreal character for this vintage. It should drink well for 12+ years.Importers: Bacchus Importers, tel.
