The 2008 Late Bottled Vintage Port is an old-vines field blend aged in a mixture of old Tonels (75%) and Pipas (25%). It comes in at 96 grams per liter of residual sugar. The tonels are over 100 years old and the pipas over 50. It was "slightly filtered" and then bottled in April, 2013. This is a completely charming LBV, rather lighter-styled (consistent with 2008, I think), but focused, beautifully balanced, correct (at least the second bottle; the first was badly corked) and easy to drink. There isn't a lot of concentration or power, but it is easy to like and the price is right. It lacks the lushness, the richness and the intensity flavor of the 2009, a much bigger vintage also reviewed this issue, but some prefer its more focused and precise demeanor.
