The 2010 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets is the most overt and exuberant of these wines from Vincent and Sophie Morey. Juicy apricots, nectarine, orange blossom, spices and butter are all woven together nicely. Because of the small yields, in 2010 the Caillerets saw a little more new oak than normal (50%), but the oak has been integrated quite nicely. Flashy, super-ripe notes reappear on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012+.
Vincent Morey began harvesting on September 17th. All of the 2010s were bottled before the 2011 harvest. Morey told me he seeks to maintain freshness in his wines, and therefore sees nothing to gain from longer elevage. I also tasted a handful of highly attractive 2011s from barrel.
