The 2006 Syrah Ex Umbris is purple-colored with superior aromatics of smoke, game, bacon, and blueberry. Smooth-textured and medium to full-bodied, on the palate the fruit is layered and the flavors spicy and savory with some elegance. It can be enjoyed over the next 6-8 years. The winery was founded in 1994 and David O’Reilly is the winemaker. He makes extensive use of DuBrul Vineyard grapes, an under the radar but superb site in Yakima Valley.www.owenroe.com

This tight, spicy Syrah is redolent of lightly floral scents of raspberries and cherries. The new oak is used tastefully, adding spice and definition, and the peppery character of the grape provides some extra lift.
