The medium ruby-colored 2008 Pinot Noir Savoia displays an ethereal perfume of cedar, spice box, rose petal, and assorted red fruits. Leaner and racier on the palate than its peers, this is an elegantly styled effort with impeccable balance and a lengthy, seamless finish. Give it 1-2 years to fill out and drink it through 2020. Ken Wright’s Pinot Noirs in 2008 are exceptional but only slightly better than his 2007s from a much more difficult vintage. Perhaps it is in the more challenging vintages that the cream really rises to the top, whereas the challenge in 2008 was to NOT make a really good wine.Tel. (503) 852-7070; www.kenwrightcellars.com

The Savoya Pinot Noir displays excellent concentration and grip and its raspberry/cherry fruit gives it a tart, racy flair. There’s an herbal edge to the tannins, but overall this is very well crafted, balanced and built for medium-term cellaring.——P.G.(6/1/2010)—— 90
