Here is Sergio Zingarelli's namesake wine. The 2012 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Sergio Zingarelli is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Colorino with a hefty price tag. It is aged in barrique for 18 months and spends another 18 months in bottle before its release. The Zingarelli family had wanted to make a top shelf Chianti Classico for some time, and the relatively new Gran Selezione denomination is what sparked their creativity. This is a beautiful and expressive wine, but the price point is too ambitious compared to many of its peers. This vintage offers aromas of raw cherry, forest floor and pressed rose. There is a thorny or rustic element to the overall presentation. In compensation, the mouthfeel is long and silky.
