The dark ruby/purple-colored 1999 Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard (from a vineyard planted 1,400 feet above Sonoma Valley) is a blend of 85% Zinfandel, 8% Petite Sirah, and 7% unidentified field varietals. At 14.6% alcohol, it is no wimpish wine. Provocative notes of road tar, deep, concentrated, ripe black fruits, licorice, and spice are followed by a rich, full-bodied, deep wine with low acidity as well as supple tannin. This multidimensional Zinfandel cascades over the palate with no hard edges. Drink this dazzling 1999 over its first 5-6 years of life, although I suspect it will age well for a decade. Tel.
