A brilliant Pinot Noir that has a core of sweet fruit that’s balanced out by savory, mineral-like qualities, the 2011 Sierra Mar Vineyard has a medium-bodied mouthfeel, plenty of texture and juicy acidity. Slightly plump and upfront, this friendly beauty is hard to resist, and I see no reason to either. Enjoy bottles over the coming 5-6 years. Drink now-2019.
A top producer in the Santa Lucia Highlands, Roar is run by Gary and Rosella Franscioni, with the wines now made by Scott Shapley as of the 2013 vintage (they were previously made by Ed Kurtzman). This is fantastic lineup of Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs.
