Made from 100% Montepulciano (though it’s not allowed to be called Montepulciano in export markets), the 2009 Minchia was aged in French oak, 20% new, for 24 months. It has a deep garnet-purple color and aromas of blackberry preserves, black plums and cherries, plus a meaty, earthy, licorice and loam undercurrent. Full bodied and generously fruited on the palate, it has a medium to firm level of fine tannins and crisp acid to support, finishing long and berry laced. Approachable now, it should remain good to 2018+.
