The 2005 Leithaberg is Blaufrankisch with the addition of St. Laurent (a very difficult grape in this vintage; another year this bottling might be monocepage). Fermented in tank and then matured in fuder and older barrique, this offers a fascinating nose of blackberry, mulberry, seaweed, and brine. Quite rich and polished on the palate (like the Johannishohe), it finishes with low-toned black fruit and stony, briny mineral suggestions.
