A serious effort, the 1998 Merlot is available for a song. Aged in 60% American and 40% French oak, it exhibits a dark ruby/purple color in addition to a classic Merlot bouquet of mocha, coffee, and berry/cherry fruit. The wine possesses low acidity, well-integrated, soft tannin, medium to full body, a fat, plush texture, and a surprisingly long finish. An exceptional value, it should drink well for 2-3 years.
