The 2003 Syrah presents a similarly rich, if slightly less lively, color along with generous amounts of super-ripe fruit, black pepper, earth and spice on an opulent, ample frame with outstanding length and notable freshness for the vintage. Rounder and softer than the 2004, it is also more rewarding to drink today and should reach maturity sooner. Only its slightly hard tannins keep the score from going higher.
