The 1991 Los Olivos Cuvee, a 60% Syrah/40% Mourvedre blend, offers aromatic complexity in its spicy, earthy, black-raspberry, and cherry-scented nose. With marvelous concentration, and a gamey, meaty side to its long, full-bodied, super-concentrated flavors, it is reminiscent of a top Bandol, and a stunning example of what can be produced from Rhone varietals planted in this area of California. Drink it over the next 6-7 years. The wines of Bob Lindquist, the owner/winemaker of Qupe, continue to go from strength to strength. His current offerings are the best he has yet produced. This is a winery dedicated to the rich, bold personalities of Rhone Valley varietals. The three red wine cuvees I tasted all possess saturated deep ruby/purple colors. Velvety textured, rich, full-bodied wines, they reveal exceptional winemaking. Tel. (805) 688-2477
