The 2011 Rosso di Montalcino La Caduta (with 18 months in French tonneaux) is a ripe, saturated wine with loads of depth and velvety intensity. A far step removed, stylistically, from the base Rosso, La Caduta is layered and fruit-driven with the plush texture and rich mouthfeel to pair with a heaping plate of pappardelle al cinghiale (ribbon pasta with wild boar sauce). Drink: 2014-2019.
Elisabetta Gnudi is an important force in Tuscan wine. The owner of Borgo Scopeto in Chianti Classico, she purchased Caparzo in 1999, soon followed by the acquisition of the adjacent property, the venerable Altesino, in 2003. I have always been a fan of her range of products and the honest pricing associated with them. This set of new release offers a good number of excellent value buys.
