The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Village comes from several parcels: La Justice, Carite Paille, Les Seuvrees and Bel Air and offers pleasant rounded wild strawberry and dark cherry fruit that display commendable clarity. The palate is clean and rounded on the entry: a fine line of acidity and an elegant persona, with suggestions of white pepper tingling on the finish. This Gevrey is the best of Taupenot-Merme’s Village Crus in 2011. Drink now-2016.
Taupenot-Merme was my final visit of the week. I have been following these wines for a number of years, even predating my wine writing career. Winemaker Romain Taupenot and his sister Virginie run the domaine in the centre of Morey-Saint-Denis and fashion a classical style of Burgundy wine that I feel has improved in recent years. Their 2011s are well-crafted and are mainly predesigned for early to mid-term consumption.
