The 1997 Corton-Charlemagne was completing fermentation (it had less than three grams of residual sugar), having been harvested (on October 10, 1997!) with a potential alcohol of 14%. Its immensely rich and ripe nose reveals pears and toast aromas that are followed by a slightly warm personality filled with raspberries, apples, anise, and spices. This medium-to-full-bodied wine is thickly-textured, broad, and decadently constituted. Its lavish quantities of super-ripe fruit, toasty oak flavors, and concentrated fruit persist throughout its impressive finish. Bravo!
