In an attempt to reach a production level of 35,000-40,000 cases, Luna has introduced a Merlot cuvee. The supple, soft 1999 Merlot (80% Merlot, 11% Sangiovese, and 9% Cabernet Franc) sees approximately 50% new oak. John Kongsgaard claims he has to have "some animal" in the Merlot.
