The 2016 Riesling Neu Bamberg "Rotliegend" is clear, pure, fresh and spicy-piquant on the nose that delivers a perfect mix of stones and fruits. In fact, this could be a great Riesling from the upper Nahe as well. Digital precision here! The palate is just perfect Riesling: ripe but not too much, lean, crystalline and enormously salty and piquant. It is a picture book Riesling with a finessed and dramatic finish full of grip and mineral tension. This so called "Ortswein" might be less concentrated and ripe than the GG's but since it's Riesling the wine doesn't care. It will still shine in ten years, that's for sure. Will the GG's also do?
