Kesseler's 2014 Pinot Noir Rheingau has a lucid, concentrated, dark and spicy cherry and blackberry bouquet; it indicates a beautiful ripeness but also a seamless purity of fruit. Silky textured and highly elegant on the palate, this is a powerful and intense, but superbly balanced Pinot Noir. It has a long, refreshing and mineral finish. The tannins are very fine but structuring. There is power and finesse here, great tension and a lovely drinkability. This wine was sourced from 80% in Assmannshausen (slate soils) and 20% in Rüdesheim (an old parcel with 60+ years vines on loess, slate and quartzite soils with extremely small berries).
