The 1994 Tokay-Pinot Gris Rangen Clos St.-Urbain was made from a mere 10 hectoliters per hectare, reached 15% natural alcohol, and it is slightly off-dry. The wine’s light golden color is followed by a huge, still unformed nose of buttered fruit and spices. With terrific richness, awesome glycerin and extract levels, and a dense, amazingly well-delineated, full-bodied finish, this wine needs 4-5 years of bottle age, after which it should drink well for 20 years. With respect to the recently released wines, Olivier Humbrecht stated that he had never seen such intensely ripe Pinot Gris with such high levels of acidity. The importer for the Zind-Humbrecht wines for most of the United States is Wine Markets International, Woodbury, NY; tel.
