The small barrel-aged 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Fut de Chene reveals little evidence of new oak. It offers up pure black cherry, raspberry, and cranberry fruit, an expansive texture, more earthy, spice box notes than the traditional cuvee, and a complex, pure, medium to full-bodied, impressively endowed personality. It, too, should be drunk over the next 7-8 years. No 2008 Berthet-Rayne offerings were presented for tasting, but this 37-acre estate produced its finest wines to date in 2007.Importers: Elite Wine Import Co., Lorton, VA; tel.
