The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio all’Oro emerges from the glass with black cherries, licorice, smoke, new leather and spices, all supported by firm, powerful tannins. The 2006 has plenty of focus and length, but the quality of the tannins is rooted in the approach to vinification that was used here prior to 2007. In other words, the 2006 Poggio all’Oro lacks a measure of finesse. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2026.
Banfi continues to step up their game with the 2007 Brunelli, the first wines made with a new approach to small-lot vinification that seeks to get the best out of the 47 Sangiovese parcels the estate owns.
